How the unemployment benefit is calculated in 2026
The benefit has a base component of 75% of the social reference indicator (ISR), granted to those eligible, and a variable component that grows with seniority: +3% (3–5 years), +5% (5–10 years), +7% (10–20 years), +10% (over 20 years), applied to the relevant average income.
The CASS withholding and the duration
CASS of 10% is withheld from the benefit (Law 141/2025). The payment duration depends on seniority: 6 months for over 1 year, 9 months for over 5 years, and 12 months for over 10 years.

Frequently asked questions about the unemployment benefit
- How long is the unemployment benefit paid?
- The duration depends on the contribution history: 6 months for over 1 year, 9 months for over 5 years, and 12 months for over 10 years.
- Is CASS withheld from the unemployment benefit?
- Yes, since 2025 CASS of 10% is withheld from the benefit (Law 141/2025), so the net amount received is smaller than the gross.
- Is the result exact?
- It is an estimate based on the ISR and the seniority bands. The ISR value is updated periodically — check the value in force when the file is opened.
